Lapinarello Cycling Marathon
The second edition of the lapinarello cycling marathon, the gran fondo dedicated to enthusiasts from around the world, is scheduled to take place on Sunday, July 15, 2012. Each year for more than 15 editions, over 3,000 cyclists have had the opportunity to discover Treviso, thanks to this event that changed its name last year, also revolutionizing its course and race philosophy.
The event involves the city of Treviso in an entire week's worth of sports and large-scale celebrations intent on welcoming cycling-tourists and those who accompany them. These participants arrive from all over the world-from England and Japan to Brazil and Australia.
This race distinguishes itself from the very beginning, thanks to its 'French-style' fractionated departure. Not all contestants leave together; instead, they depart at regular intervals, as in the big classic races organized up North. This method guarantees all participants a safer course, reducing excessive competitiveness during departure. Myriad experts-whether professional cyclists or ex-professionals-will mingle with the event's participants; special guests include Miguel Indurain and Eddy Merckx, as well as athletes from other sports such as Yuri Chechi and Jarno Trulli.
The Gran fondo has always been deeply linked to the city of Treviso. For this reason, it's scheduled to depart from the heart of the city's historical center-the evocative Piazza dei Signori. From there, one can discover the rest of the Province, thanks to a course that runs along the Montello and through the splendid hills of Prosecco. The most courageous adventurers will surely go all the way up to Monte Grappa, to experience one of the most beautiful and challenging climbs in Italy, that proved demanding even for professional cyclists during the last edition of the 'Giro d'Italia'.
Expect myriad side events like Pinarello's laGourmet, which will be celebrating its seventh edition. LaGourmet is a food-and-wine inspired bike ride that's open to everyone. It is organized by the Pinarello family in conjunction with thelapinarello cycling marathon, to offer locals and visitors the chance to enjoy the flavors of the Marca territory. The event's purpose is to provide an opportunity for locals and the people accompanying cyclists from all over the world to sample typical specialties from this magnificent territory. In this way, accompanying visitors can truly make the most of their time at the race.
The Lapinarello cycling marathon is part of the national 'Prestige' circuit (which foresees 10 trials) and the Veneto4rides regional circuit, which gathers together the four most famous gran fondos of the Veneto region. At the beginning of autumn, the C.O. created the FiveStars League, an initiative founded with the following races: Dles Dolomites Marathon', '9 Colli', 'Sportful Dolomiti Race' and Gran fondo Gimondi. The objective of this event is to support the development of a brand of amateur cycling that focuses on the health of participants, proving less extreme and more respectful of the environment.
Pinarello is a world-reknowned Italian brand based in Treviso, in the Veneto. 2011 marks the 15th annual running of the Granfondo Pinarello. In 2008, there were 2 routes, a 200 km Granfondo circuit and a 120 km Fondo circuit. The Fondo circuit was Treviso (0m)-Colle di Guarda (250m)-Zuel di Là (280m)-Tarzo (280m)-Sella Pietro di Feletto (263m)-Presa XIV di Montello (375m)-Treviso (0m).
The Granfondo circuit was Treviso (0m)-Colle di Guarda (250m)-Passo San Boldo (706m)-Rive di Valmorel (830m)-Nevegal (1030m)-Sella di Fadalto (489m)-Sella San Lorenzo (417m)-Sella Pietro di Feletto (263m)-Presa XIV di Montello (375m)-Treviso (0m).
